Carpet Steam Cleaning heats up cold water to over 190 Degrees fahrenheit. Heat is important in any cleaning process. The hotter the better.
This hot water is pressurized to over 600 psi at a low volume flow. The water pressure acts as an agitator. The water volume is cut down so that the carpet does not get too wet. You want to make sure that enough water is injected into the carpet to agitate and rinse out any soap. Too little hot water will simply not be effective.
The last component is getting the dirty water out of the carpet fibres. Having a strong vacuum will pull all the dirty water out and leave the carpet damp, to be able to dry in 4 hours.
There are two types of carpet steam cleaning. Truck Mounted steam cleaning and Portable steam cleaning.
Portable steam cleaning, involves bringing in a small vacuum, and heat pump, to generate the heat, hot water and vacuum. The only problem with the portable unit is that, it is about half of the power of a truck mounted system. Portable Carpet Steam Cleaning units are designed to be used in areas that truck mounted equipment cannot get to, such as apartments.
Typically the truck mounted carpet steam cleaning unit is about twice as strong as the portable unit. The truck mounted equipment isn't powered by an electrical motor, but an external gas engine.
The results from a truck mounted carpet steam cleaning unit are far better than the portable unit. Some may argue, just keep going over the carpet with the portable unit, to achieve the same results. This doesn't work because, each time the portable carpet cleaner goes over the carpet, it gets wetter, due to the poor vacuum.
