A Plant stain is caused by water traveling through the earth and soil in a potted planter. When the water is traveling through the dirt, minerals and organics are picked up by the water.
Once the water passes through the dirt into the carpet, it brings with it a yellowish-brown tinge. The water may dry but the stain will remain. Even know this type of stain is organic it will not come out of the carpet, once the carpet is dry.
See the image below for an example of a plant stain.
Once the plant stain is dry, there is no way to remove it.
Some carpet cleaning soaps and remedies will claim to remove this stain, but in fact most of those products just cover it up.
The only way to deal with this type of stain, is to cut it out and replace it with another piece of carpet, or dye it.
If a plant leaks onto the carpet and there is an oriental rug under it, quite often the colours will also bleed on the carpet underneath also.
